This consortium is working on the impact of new technologies on the city, urban planning and architecture. The FAV2018 was an opportunity to share with the general public the state of research on the issue.

The dAD Team from UNIGE for FAV, directed by Manuel Gausa with dAD’s students and PhD students of ADD, presented an installation with the title: We are city, we are information… we are the inter?faces.

The cities are the background of our daily life, that increasingly use technology in order to manage and offer better services to citizens. They become living laboratories where it is possible to experiment with new devices. The potential availability of data related to the implementation of multiple sensors and flows creates new opportunities; not only in monitoring but also in the way we draw, think and experience the city. The “big data” are thus at the service of the inhabitants and citizens, repositioning the man at the center of matter, experiencing a new idea of public space and meeting. Therefore, this new idea of space shared the installation matrix entitled: “We are city, we are inter?faces”, proposed by KAAU and by the creative students of the University of Genoa.

The Project: The installation proposes a celebration of urban diversity and multiplicity starting from an anonymous and repetitive element like the mask, which is converted into an interface device and which, through processes of interaction with information, encourages changes and participatory dynamics aimed at creating new and different identities.

The anonymous element of the mask modified and implemented by different information takes on the role of face and inter / face, capable of reacting to the flow of data and adapting to changes, actions and personal incentives.

At the same time the installation proposes a critical reflection on the danger of standardization and depersonalization in the age of virtual society. The other aim of the project was to recreate an urban living room where was possible to share with the public the state of research. Different conferences from the KAAU team have been held in the installation site, at the Hôtel des Trésoriers de la Bourse, from 13 to 15 June 2018.

WORKSHOP: Asking To Advanced Urbanism – Béziers https://ka-au.net/workshop-asking-to-advanced-urbanism-beziers/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=workshop-asking-to-advanced-urbanism-beziers Mon, 04 Jun 2018 15:22:54 +0000 https://ka-au.net/?p=8153 Sensors and sensibilities. City–Senses and sens(c)ivilities.
Responsive contexts and responsable societies. Precise DATAS & holistic VISIONS.
Such combination “information + vision” (processing capacity and perspective, strategic and relational capacity) lacks today of suitable reference areas and ambitious programs of interdisciplinary exchange. If we understand the new logics –associated to a new urban thinking – in relation with the challenges of
a new informational era –and the capacity, in this one, to multiply the interactions between conditions and information(s) – we need to understand in what terms we define “information”, not only as a dataparameter or a data-indicator but as a more enlarge concept associated to other assimilated key-terms
(programs, solicitations, messages, patterns, identities, matters, cultures, types, behaviours, senses, networks, natures, morphologies and metabolic contexts) able to be combined in (and from) new –and more– open, flexible and resilient (urban) systems.

WORKSHOP: Genoa Responsive City https://ka-au.net/workshop-genoa-responsive-city-2/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=workshop-genoa-responsive-city-2 Mon, 04 Jun 2018 15:09:21 +0000 https://ka-au.net/?p=8144 Gaming and Participation
If the physical structure and the image of the city have always been based on the technologies of production, communication and representation, how does Information era and communication technologies impact on the process of the design of the city?

Genoa Responsive City
If the physical structure and the image of the city have always been based on the technologies of production, communication and representation, how does Information era and communication technologies impact on the process of the design of the city? We still design for the people, as we have educated to do, and we consider technologies as a possibility for designing in a more optimized way. At the same time, traditional limitations of how to integrate more active citizens and communities in the design of their spaces are starting to be defeated by new design tools, highly interactive interfaces and intuitive processes.
Which are the design protocols, that allow the planning of an urban responsive organism, able to adapt and/or interact with its inhabitants? Can we implement such interaction from the very first steps of the design of the built and urban space?
Can we use responsive and gaming technologies for rethinking participatory processes on designing with the people?

Different issues and out-puts were concretize, in this meeting between KA-AU Units and Students.

SYMPOSIUM: MED.NET3 Resili(g)ence https://ka-au.net/symposium-med-net3-resiligence/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=symposium-med-net3-resiligence Mon, 04 Jun 2018 12:12:58 +0000 https://ka-au.net/?p=8131 The approach to the development of a new Advanced Urbanism paradigm comes from the innovatory processing combination –in the last two decades– between the terms INFORMATION and INTERACTION, understood in all its dimensions, spatial environmental, social, technological and cultural. The notion of information appears, in this advanced approach, directly related with the capacity to manage  complex programs and simultaneous solicitations, tendential parameters and environmental indicators, cultural tendencies and social dynamics, and, evidently, with the digital and computational increasing capacity to process, measure and optimise data in new anti-typological and open systemic approaches (integral and integrative) associated to a new Informational Urbanism.
