Traditional consultation can be manual, time intensive and a one-off snapshot. Commonplace tools aim to provide an ongoing channel of understanding and collaboration. Customers use Commonplace to reveal issues and suggest solutions, as well as for statutory consultation and formal planning applications. It also help communities plan their neighbourhoods, co-design solutions and analyse the social impact of new development.

Smart Lighting https://ka-au.net/smart-lighting/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=smart-lighting Mon, 29 Aug 2016 15:15:16 +0000 http://81.47.175.201/ersilia/kaau/?p=6320

Streetlights are a vital part of every city, providing citizens and business with safety and security. But what if we could use our street lighting network in a more intelligent way rather than the simple on-off system that currently exists.

Through our Future Cities demonstrator, Glasgow is leading the way with the trial of intelligent street lighting, looking at ways to add more control and efficiency to our lighting network while harnessing the power of real time data to improve both lighting and safety throughout the city.

Route planner and real time information systems https://ka-au.net/real-time-information/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=real-time-information Mon, 29 Aug 2016 15:06:17 +0000 http://81.47.175.201/ersilia/kaau/?p=6315 An example of real time information is Glasgow’s Active Travel Demonstrator. App that aims to show how technology can help make the city friendlier to cyclists and pedestrians – encouraging people to get active as they go about their daily lives.

The Glasgow Cycling App provides a platform for cyclists to map how they move around the city. Using the app, cyclists can record their routes – capturing and publishing their journeys. Using the data collected, other users can access information on the best routes around the city allowing them to better plan journeys and encouraging more uptake of cycling.

Digital cultural installations https://ka-au.net/digital-cultural-installations/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=digital-cultural-installations Mon, 29 Aug 2016 10:51:29 +0000 http://81.47.175.201/ersilia/kaau/?p=6309 An example of a digital cultural installation is the Hello Lamp Post,  an experimental, city-wide platform for play; an opportunity to rediscover your local environment, share your memories of the city and uncover the stories that other people leave behind.

Hello Lamp Post encourages to look at the city with fresh eyes and engage with systems we take for granted. This is a chance to slow down, reflect and give yourself permission to play.

Space Syntax https://ka-au.net/space-syntax/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=space-syntax Mon, 29 Aug 2016 10:03:13 +0000 http://81.47.175.201/ersilia/kaau/?p=6302 The network of public spaces in central London between Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square is the heart of national government and, for many, the heart of London. A masterplan for the area was commissioned in 1996 by Westminster City Council and the Greater London Authority, calling for improvements in the quality of the public realm, which – although of supreme historic importance – was perceived to be unpleasant, unsafe, and dominated by traffic.

Space Syntax provided an initial analysis of pedestrian activity patterns, which highlighted two key issues: Londoners avoided the centre of Trafalgar Square and tourists failed to make the journey between Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square. Our identification of these problems underpinned Norman Foster’s competition entry and helped his team secure the commission.

Mappiness maps happiness across space in the UK to better understand how people’s feelings are affected by features of their current environment—things like air pollution, noise, and green spaces.
